Delmarva Chapter: Facilitator-Led Ethics Workshop: House Out of Control

When:  May 26, 2021 from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Delmarva Chapter

Session Description:

In this course, we will use the IMA Case Journal case study, “House Out of Control” to examine fraudulent activity that occurred due to a lack of internal control. The fraud was committed by the executive director, who misappropriated funds to meet personal needs. An investigation then ensued by the finance committee. This case considers the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) 2013 Internal Control – Integrated Framework, evaluation of an ethical dilemma, working with internal controls systems, and the revised IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice.

Learning Objectives:

After this session, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of having internal controls in nonprofit organizations with small staffs.
  • Examine the investigative process of reviewing and gathering data.
  • Identify how to deal with conflict situations when having to report to different persons of authority.
